I was not prepared to answer myself - when the question comes to me - why Bishnupur again. I was feeling drowsy in AC Chair Car compartment of Purulia Express; the ambience was really comfortable. It was Saturday evening. Nothing was planned; even nothing was decided whether the weekend we will spend at Kolkata or we will go for a short weekend trip. But today morning – when I was navigating to some old photo albums – suddenly it came to my mind – why we can’t go to the Mallabhum Bishnupur once again. It was almost 8.30 in evening; Very few people got down from Train. I checked in the best hotel - Hotel Laxmi Park; Most pleasant stay i had ever in any moderate range hotel as a traveller. After a heavy dinner i took my deep slumber and got up at early morning. The aircondition was chilling me in the room. It was drizzling outside. I took a rishkaw from my hotel and went to Lalbandh. The place i like most - nothing special - but seating on the water side made me cool all the time. Last time i checked in Bishnupur Tourist Lodge. I spent a whole evening on water side. That was a winter evening. This is July. Obviously - i can't feel that pleasant soothing air - but still the view was something eye catching. I took two shots of Cotton pygmy goose and little grebe in the water. The water level was much below as expected - the city does not have little or no raining for the last three/four months. After back to my hotel - along with my wife and relatives i left for the temple expedition. Really amazing the structures and style they built in their time. Yes - i am telling about Malla Dynasty. Starting from the Rasmancha - we proceed to one by one - Shyamray, Krishnaray, Madanmohan, Nandalal, Lalji, Chinnamasta temples......all are favoulous. After a good lunch we took a rest and in the afternoon we left from Hotel for station. Yeah-we took Rupasa Bangla and reached Kolkata. Short but beautiful - this was an excellent tour we managed.

Weekend trip to Bakkhali
This was my first trip to Sunderban biosphere. Our destination was Bakkhali Frazerganj. The objective was just to spend the weekend leisurely, but the nature surrounded by us so much active - we can't stop us to explore the whole place all around.
We reached Bakkhali at 11.30 am in WBSTC bus from Esplanade. Accommodation we made in Hotel Deepak. The location was really awesome. After taking heavy lunch, we came out from the hotel compound and choose a 3-wheeled vaan rishka. Bablu the vaan driver first took us at Benfish Harbor from where ganga mandir we saw at a distance; The troller to jambu island can be managed from this place. 10-15 fish trollers were leaving the jetty that time. The scenic beauty was nice. Then we went to Henry island-a complete isolate wonderful place with scenic view of lake and meadowland all over. The roadside reaching the place was nice. Due to rainy season, rainwater was logged in the marshlands - it made the real beauty of the place.
Green and green all over -- really it was scenic....
We took the permission from the Henry Island management and went inside the island through the narrow lands across the fishing. There we watched Black rumped flameback, paddyfield pipit, large billed crow, little egret, and little cormorant.
Then through a short cut way - we moved towards Bakkhali. There we went to
Crocodile Center and Deer park. After that we moved towards Frazerganj
beach...We take little snacks at afternoon. The sea wave was not much -- but the evening sky and long view through beach was really eye catching...The whole evening we enjoyed and then at 7 reached hotel. After taking meal at night - we took early sleep as we have to wake up early.
Next day at around 5.40 a.m. we left from hotel. The vaan wala was waiting at hotel outside. Opposite of the hotel - there was a huge marshland and the local people was saying that marsh land is full of birds...bronge winged jacana, white bellied moorhen, jungle babbler, common kingfisher, stork billed kingfisher, white throated king fisher, pond heron, cormorant, crow phesant, tree pie was in large number.... all are flying around in front of my sight...really amazing...i feel the beauty of this bio-sphere--really splendid. We again sat on the vaan and started moving to see bana bibi mandir at bakkhali...We went inside the casurina forest across the bakkhali beach and reached bana bibi mandir after 15-20 minutes gentle walk.....on the way we found cactus with flowers, geoa tree....then we entered on the bakkhali beach....wonderful - i feel a heaven in front of me - in the drizzling the sky was appearing ashy blue in the early morning...i moved near to the sea to feel the water on the beach....Jambu island was appearing. On the beach - we snapped red crabs.
After taking breakfast we again went to Frazerganj beach -- we find Redwattled lapwing, collared kingfisher across the beach.... At 11.30 we got into the return bus and trip ends here.... less than 24 hours we were here - but no disappoint comes to us for short trip - but our heart was contented with the bio - diversity of the whole place...an
unforgettable weekend.

Panchalingeswar and Chandipur
This time our destination was Orissa, our neighboring state, surrounded by Bay of Bengal, hills and deep virgin forest with many historical places. At around 4.30 am in an early we came out with small luggage for Dhauli Express which was scheduled at 6.00 am. The morning was not so cold – sky was very clear. Around 9.30 am, we reached Balasore. We took a car from there. Our destination was Panchalingeswar, around 26 km away from Balasore station. We booked Panthanivas, OTDC for one night stay at Panchalingeswar. The road condition was good - yellow paddy fields spreading throughout both sides of the road endlessly miles after miles. We reached a place named Nilagiri within 40 minutes. Here we saw Nilagiri Raj Palace along with some temples. The place was surrounded by a Nilgiri hill range. It was really a beautiful historical place. Balasore is famous for its forests and mines. This district is noted for the river Buhdabalanga and 3,824 feet high mountain Mahagiri. After spending 30 minutes there, we again moved towards our final destination. The road was damaged…but our eyes was on the nilgiri hills rangs. We had a grand view of the skyline with Nilgiri range with the yellow paddy landscape on earth. At around 11.45 am… we finally reached panthalivas. There were some construction works going around at that time. The accommodation was good - Devgiri range (part of nigiri) around us…monstrous rocks were scattered all around over the hills and the silence of forest prevails the beauty of that area; After bath and a hefty lunch we came out on the meadow road directing towards the famous Panchalingeswar temple. We did not exert ourselves much that day as we were little bit tired, but took some snaps and enjoyed the nature. The night was a full moon night with the moon like a silver plate. The silhouette of the entire range in the moonlit night was a grand feast to our eyes. We indeed were lucky for that. The romance of the night covered us with mystic fulfillment. We called it an early night . Next day started for us at around 5’0 clock. The moon was still there in the sky. We planned to give puja at temple. So, we started towards the temple without stopping for breakfast . After crossing half km from the panthanivas, we found a gate. From there, 260 stairs was waiting for us to take us to the auspicious heavenly abode of Lord Shiva. We found the rocks of different sizes all over the road side. Water from the falls situated on the hill top was trickling down under the rocks. It was real fun to watch people playing and bathing on those rocks and water. After crossing 260 stairs, we worshipped shiva lingas. This is the only place – where one can find five shiva lingas. Nilgiri kings found those lingas long back. According to our guide , the character Jarashandha from our great epic Mahabharata, worshipped shiva here and due to some reason, he kept those lingas in the rocks. This is now very famous auspicious place for the local oriya people.
After this event, we planned for forest trek. Panchalingeswar is actually part of the Kuldiha forest. Kuldiha is called as Elephant Sanctuary. Bison, elephants, bears, deers, panther etc many animals are there in this forest. On top of the panchalingeswar temple, we found another temple of Banabibi (in Sunderban forest also, we find the same devi for worship). In front of that temple, there was a small lake. Our guide told us – the lake is not connected to any water flows; but it comes out from the bottom of that lake. We sat for 3 -5 minutes there and found bubbles coming out from the bottom. Another wonder we saw. Then we started with vigour and renewed energy fast through the forest. It was really a dense one and the path was so narrow that two people can not move side by side. We saw the elephant’s dung and footsteps of bison on our way . We walked nearly for an hour and found a small water fall - Charpuria Falls. It was really nice one. We felt total and utter bliss in that magical surrounding. Then we came back and after checking out of the panthanivas, we took some breakfast and started for the car waiting for us. Before getting into the car, our eyes again strayed to take in one last glance of the serene and rustic natural beauty of the place and we promised to ourselves that we will surely come back again atleast once again in our life. No luxury stay, no A/C no any other modern amenities – but only nature , forest, poor people, hills , rocks and deep silence – A wonderful combination of all – Great Panchalingeswar.
At around 12.30 PM, we got into Chandipur – we booked our accommodation at anandamoyee hotel, the big hotel in Balasore. We took big lunch and then we took rest for the full day. In evening, we just roamed around the hotel compound. In dinner, we ordered for Sea Crabs. Uff...the taste was horrible; The size was huge. We wake up in early morning and went to the sea beach; The sea shore was long away from the hotel – say around 2 – 3 kms; Basically the there is nothing attractive in Chandipur; We watch the Sun rise – it was beautiful. The land was totally isolate. Normally 2 times in a day, sea water comes in Chandipur. On the sea shore, we watched many birds- this was something extra we got there. Here is end of this trip.

Exploring Rishyap
This was an excellent experience while reaching a virgin destination in North Bengal, Rishyap on 6th April, 2007. It was just like a heaven, a place from where you will find how small you are - in respect to nature. It seems a like a roof - from where i was able to see all the natural beauties surround me.
We were staying at a Hotel named Kanchan View - we booked it through The Wheels. The room was more than a hotel.. wooden floor & veranda with multicolored flowers and orchids. From veranda - we found a two large hills - one is - where Rishyap Habitants live and another was the hill -- where Pedong was situated ...the continuation of the hill was upto Gangtok - we heard. In the night - there was a heavy shower - uff -- chilled cold it was ... but we were enjoying the beauty in the Candle night upto 2.00 in night. Remember -- there is huge scarcity of current in Rishyap. Just one year back, they got electricity - but it is not available all the time. Morning - we roamed here and there and the whole day we passed in the ups and down in hills and by eating momos. The next day - we decided that we would go to Lava by trekking. We took one Porter - he is just 15 yrs old child. It was another exciting trip we covered -- the trek was for 2 hours to cover 6 kms. Finally we reached in Lava's Forest Rest House.
The beauty i will never forget in my life -- two nights in Rishyap is ever forgettable -- the sweetness will never die from my memory.
The best time to visit is: Feb - April End and Oct - Dec. The place is full of flowers and many himalayan birds.
Make a plan to go atleast once in Rishyap and send your feedback;
